As part of their Everybody initiative, Western Florida Second Jurisdiction COGIC has created a Scholarship Award, a merit program, to help students who will attend college this fall.
On August 1, 2018, Western Florida Second Jurisdiction Youth Department awarded $1,500 in scholarships to incoming college freshmen students. Tildenville COGIC member Terrill Ford received a $500 scholarship and NewLife COGIC member E’lexis Taylor received a $1,000 scholarship.
Bishop Larry E. Perkins said, “These are exciting times where we as a jurisdiction are able to give back to our communities and support our students.”
“It has always been a dream to provide scholarships to well deserving young people. As a youth department we strive to meet the holistic needs of our youth. So, it was with great joy that God saw fit to turn my dream into reality by providing $1,500 in scholarships to 2 students as they embark on their college journey. They will represent Western Florida Second at their respective college. To God be the glory,” said Youth Department President, Dr. DeMetra Williams.
Under the leadership of Bishop Larry E. Perkins and Youth Department President Dr. DeMetra Williams, the jurisdiction provides scholarship opportunities to graduating high school seniors. The program is limited to students who are members of a church within the Western Florida Second Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.
